Brimstone Pre Game Ride Report: Friday, March 2012

FRIDAY: Uncommon alias “Carnage”, NCMudman, Discowest, Jeff, Brent, and me DrMud rode Friday. The rest of the Mud and Guts Crew were coming in later in the day and night. Started around 9AM and got back around 6 PM.

Did not knock down a lot of miles but rode some good trails, not much stopping, about once an hour, guessing around 50 miles, forgot the actual count. My overall skill level advanced a notch. Riding with NC’ was a good experience to expand in my mind what a Grizz can do with a skilled rider. I wore body armor, will do a review, felt safe, just hot, looks good on camera.

NC’ led us around to his favorite spots, went from the front to the back of Brimstone, about midday, the rain started and those trails added greasy to steep and rocky, almost literally spun to a stop in some really steep bad spots. In the rain, we rode on with me crying that my glasses were fogged and I was ready to quit. (Body armor trapping body heat). This was at 3pm. The rain stopped and I could see again, so my B’tchin and moanin stopped. (My muscles were sore too, but I could live with that). We made it back out around 6pm all of us had blinking gas lights. Went and ate some warm food at a local diner, for some reason Uncommon tipped the waiter $100 bucks….explain that one to your wife…..

Damage and Carnage: . Late in the day just five minutes from camp, Brent tried to avoid the mud puddle not knowing the depth (they were full it had rained a lot that day)and slid off the bank into the mud puddle, upside down. One slow motion rollover in one of the safest places that we rode. No injury other than scratched leg, soaked body, and bent handle bars. He rode the next day. Earlier, Discowest after successfully following NCMudman up the most difficult spot that we saw all day on Trail # 5,, cracked the throttle on the Kawi at the top, got a hard bite on rock, wheelie’d and was dumped off the back, bike hit a tree, knocked some bark off and bent his rear rack. Riders back and arms were scraped a little.

As planned……. time for the night ride, everybody bailed…….bunch of lightweights….. except NCMudman and me, we left out about 9PM and rode till about midnight, basically doing a mud run. NC lead up a large boulder creek and we were also hitting every mudhole that we saw, the Rigid duallies lights, working great for both of us. Bumped in to some of the Mud and Guts Crew, Ridered and Mudslinger I recognized Ridereds canopy in the dark, after a five minute meet and great, the group rode on. Got on trail # 4 and found some deep mudholes, I had a big ride the next day, so….I bravely let NCMudman go first through most of them…..HE NEEDS SNORKLES. He pushes the envelope. …lol… Rain started again….My glasses started fogging and I started B’ and Moaning…. ..also… did not fill my gas tank up in the dark, had my finger in the gas hole using as a gauge and thought gas was hitting it, but guess not . Got back, loaded NC in the rain. He had a 24 hour ride day.

Favorite quote of day, Brent who is 20 years younger than Uncommon, Jeff and me, said, “I cannot believe that I am so physically exhausted out here riding with a bunch of old guys”……lol.. He said this about 3pm. And , no…he did not make the night ride….lol.
