I got a "09 sportsman and I just replaced the rear wheel bearings ( "bout time right). When I took it apart the nuts were completely loose,so I torqed them to 85lbs. The front wheel bearings were loose also I torqed them and they would"t even turn, so I just loosened them back up and left them this way. Does this right?

It is possible that your front bearings are froze up and the axle is spinning inside it. It would be hard to say for sure without taking it apart. Its not a bad idea to put a little red loctite on the outside of the new bearings so they don't try to spin inside the strut or hub also.
