Carl has received 2 estimates for insurance so far. It comes in about 10K per year. If you do the math it would be $100.00 for every 100 members. This is only an estimate and could change if Carl puts any of his own $$$ and who ever else wants to keep the area open LEGALLY. It does come at a bad time when the economy is bad and people are having a tuff time making ends meet.

I would have no problem paying that, I am curious to how they are going to police this..

I know in the past where I have seen this happen they usually start with gates with locks. Then when that fails it's cameras and police where you park.

Here is an answer to a question on the East TN forum: Will enough people pay $100 to ride here? No I don't. We all know that there are people riding where they aren't suppost to. It happens at all pay to ride areas and private property as well. From what I have seen on various forums there are many questions and concerns. This is the start of a process to determine what will happen at Pickett. I can tell you from 1st hand experience living in NJ. I was ticketed and my bike taken away on a tow truck. This changed where I live and ride. I guess it will come down to your confort level riding where you are not suppost to be. I am a member of the Windrock ATV Club and support their endeavors to keep Coal Creek open and help with fund raising. One thing is for sure; if we don't do something this wonderful area will be lost to us. That is my 2cents.

I only get to ride Pickett 3-4 times a year. Yes, it's worth a hundred bucks to me. I would be glad to join a club to have a place to ride out of Sunnybrook, and I believe that a good number of non-members would be willing to pay a day fee or buy a permit to ride. There WILL be people that abuse the policies, there WILL be people that refuse to pay and ride anyway, and it WILL be dififcult to police. Having said that, I believe it is worth the effort and I believe there will be enough of us wheelers rally around Carl and the Sandwich Shop to pull this thing off. As for the trespassers, that issue will have to be worked out. I don't have the answer but I'm pretty sure you can't just hang them on the spot. Long live Pickett!

More info today. Spk with Carl. The size of the lease area is 3500 acres and the adjoining land would be another 3500 acres. This would include most of the land we now use on the Kentucky side. Permits would be issued to non club members. Club members would no longer pay a parking fee. We still need to find out how many people would PAY and how much it would cost to lease the land beside the insurance. Lets see how it goes!!! The private land, 3500 acres, at present don't seem to want a lease fee. The sand mine area is not in this 7K acres and Carl is working on that.

Spoke with Carl today. BAD news. After reading the lease terms and costs it has been decided not pursue this program. The Sunnybrook Sandwich shop will close as of 9/3/12. Parking will still be available for $5.00 per unit. No more food. The 2 rooms will still be available to rent. So, if we are still going to ride here it will be WITHOUT the land owners permission. It sure was a good thing while it lasted. Local land owners are still willing to let us ride and MAYBE there is a way around the closed area.

Id say there are several "old roads" or right of way roads there ..... locals up there are not concerned and the property has changed hands several times before ....when i started riding up there in early 2000's they were alot of signs posted no trespassing then and at one point above the church on the store side they tried blocking the road up but it didnt last long..... only time will tell ...

The locals I've talked to are very scared of how this is going to turn out (me included). This situation is different because this area is now owned by someone that isn't local. Before, it's always been owned by someone locally that in many cases, off roaded as well. This is a different animal....these folks that own it now have the means to come in and close all their land as they see fit and have done so in the past with similar areas.

The only real thing we have going for us is a fellow named Charles Gibbs that owns land scattered throughout the area and he wants access to his land to remain open. He owns around the car hauler (but no the actual car hauler) and I'm pretty sure he owns the preaching ground.
