| The belt has an intake right beside that fan...and an exhaust at the back of the housing.I'd say that it's helping circulate air through the housing. | |

No! If you get water in the belt it will slip and that fan will not matter. There is a fan on the opposite side of the motor that is out in the open and some people remove it because it causes the machines to bog down in heavy mud and water.. I have not removed it from mine.

The belt fan doesn't cause a problem as he said...but the one on the other side definitely does. If you ride in much water over a couple feet deep..you need to take the passenger side fan off and drill a few drain holes in the bottom of the plastic cover over the passenger side fan.

from all i can find its purpose is to cool the exhaust pipe and exhaust hanger to mainly extend the life of the rubber hanger.

| Thread two of the long bolts from your cover(?) into the secondary until it is opened all the way up. Then, just work the belt of the primary. You may have to squeeze the primary closed. | |

| use the long bolt as the mustangjunkie said and the remove the nut holding the primary sheave in place, separate the primary and the belt will come off easily... Then install in reverse.. | |

| I was able to remove my belt without taking either pulley off. I cranked the bolts all the way in and fully expanded the pulley, then worked it off. Maybe it's different with a 450? With a 660, the best belt is a 700 oem belt. Check with JBS and see what he recommends. He usually has the lowest oem prices too. | |

I have never tried it like that, I always pull the sheave apart and clean it while I am in there... Good info...
