PostSubject: HCRR INDEPENDENCE DAY RIDE 7-6-2013   Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:34 pm

Rob,Guy,Chris and myself celebrated our 4th of July, starting out in the rain on our trip to Big Black and then on to Lynch,Benham and Cumberland,Ky where we topped off the tanks and had Lunch at Charlotte's Hoagie Shop & Restaurant.(good food) On the way back thru Lynch,we stopped at the Portal 31 exhibiton mine and the other historical buildings associated with it, this whole area is loaded with some very interesting mining history. We didn't on this trip, but the the Mine Museum in Benham is a must see!!
So after filling our machines and belly's and a good history lesson, we hit the trails for the return trip back to Evart's. The return trip was fast paced as we were trying to beat the rain, that we knew was in those dark clouds that seemed to be following us. Just as we got back to the haul road coming off of Big Black we decided we had better get our rain gear back on, good thing we did because coming down Slope Holler the sky opened up, thunder was cracking and lightning was flashing straight up and down  and it rained cats & dogs all the way back to the North Evart's RV Park. Some of us ended the day wetter than others(myself I was dry as a bone)  Gotta love that Gore-Tex
At the end of an Awesome day of riding with some great friends, I had 101 miles on the odometer and some great memories!!

Appreciate it it Dale. Are you making the Pickett ride this weekend or riding Tysons?

I thought maybe you got to Burkesville. there are trails that go from there, all the way though Metcalfe and into green county. That would be cool if they connected some how.
