Ride Report with video:
How to describe this ride? Start at the beginning, alarm clock did not go off, overslept 1 hour, in my rush to not be late, left the GoPro at home and my good helmet, did bring the camcorder so not a total loss.
About 10 to 15 of us riding, group size varied at different times of the day. Uncommon, Mattn03, MrMudder16, my son, and me DrMud, representing team Yamaha, and others riding Honda's Popos, Kawasaki's, Canams?, We moved the line of Quads about as fast through the woods as the utilities could travel. No video of the speed riding. Group slowed down for the technical up hill down hill stuff, and a few played in the mud which I was able to shoot some vids.
Met around 8:30 and rode till 4pm. Ride highlights, Uncommon created my first ever witnessed 3 car atv pile up. His good friend was riding his Newly purchased Popo with less than 50 miles on it, and Uncommon turned around, and I could be wrong......but sounded like to me..(I was two atv's back) ..that he might have said....Watch this I am going to take this Popo out.....Or maybe if a person was closer they might have heard.....Oh crap, I did not realize that the line had stopped while I was looking back at MrMudder16 go through that mudhole.
Anyway..he nailed the Popo, his good friend..and caused the Popo to crash into the Honda in front of him. Popo suffered.... Broken front lid and bent hinge... Honda, older 90's model, good metal, no damage, Uncommons new 2012 Yamaha Grizz with eps and new, talking brand new brush guard bumper, now has a 1 inch bent spot and his angles look a little funny? This all happened in the AM.
PM portion of ride Met up with some of Mattn03 sports quad riding bros after lunch, so the sport quad leads out and the rest of us followed up hills down hills at a pretty good clip....Group is travelling well....staying pretty tight... Sports quad in the front, Mattn03 next and the rest behind.... Now, we have been up steep rutted hills, down steep rutted hills ripped through the woods all day at speed....Mattn03 spins out on the trail and was completely sideways, then the tires found grip and stuck...and bottle rocketed him down the trail in what my son described to me as Matt did about a half a dozen rolls down the trail, outrunning the Grizz and the Grizz did one complete roll, but... the Grizz landed on all fours.....Kinda like a cat....
Matt took about a five minute break laying on the ground.catching his air ...while his buddy talked to him...and they sorted out if he was hurt.....He did ask about the status of his Grizz while laying there resting....I kindly informed him the Grizz now has a low profile sports quad look.....with a low profile handlebars and low profile front rack. Once he was determined to be reasonably ok, I turned the camera on.....Others marveled that Uncommon had not run over him.....LOL..... Rider is a little sore but ok. The Grizz and rider rode out of the woods under there own power.
